short track

tuesdays mean short track racing here in cospgs. well ok the track isnt that short, its more like a circuit race, but dirt circuit is sometimes hard to say and all the cool kids at 1 olympic plaza call it short track, so thats the name it gets. anyway its a good thing. all out for 35 min with all the crew on a weeknight spells lots of fun. one really surprising thing about the whole deal is the people who show up. the standard thursday night racer group generally makes an appearance, but that only makes up less than a third of the peleton. last week, the third week of the beidelmann/sondermann short track, there were 20-25 riders out. we're not all the same ability level, but everybody has someone to ride with and we all have fun hurting ourselves.

a figure eight loop makes up the course in sondermann park (or aeral view). its a 12-18 minute loop of double and single track. there is an 8 minute rolling climb with some really fast gentle parts and some saddle-penetrating-the-anus steep climbs. once the summit is reached there are 4minutes of yee-haw fun descending that start with an almost-scary steep descent which boosts the speed right up for the swoopy, slallomesque singletrack along the edge of a ravine. the whole thing is wide open fast, alternating between filling-rattling and am-i-actually-touching-the-ground smooth. all in all there are hell-yeah's to be had aplenty.
